In 1793 the first diplomatic envoy from the UK arrived in China to attempt to negotiate a better trade deal. Now paintings acquired on that trip are up for auction in London.
The 23 paintings were owned by John Crewe, cousin of George Macartney who led the first British diplomatic delegation to China and are expected to fetch up to $65,000.
