#RAZOR: Cryobattery - Storing renewable energy as liquid air
10m
One of the biggest challenges with renewable energy is storing it. The surplus energy created when the sun is shining and the wind is blowing is normally lost as it is very difficult to store such large amounts of energy.
But hope may be on the horizon with the innovative CRYObattery project in Manchester, UK, where Europe's largest liquid air battery is being built.
The battery will use spare green energy to compress air into a liquid and store it. It can then be expanded from a liquid back into a gas through electricity-generating turbines when energy is needed.
Professor Yulong Ding led the initial stage of technology development with Highview Power and gave Shini a tour of the site.
Is this the future of greener energy storage?
