In this episode of RAZOR, Jo Colan meets up with the innovative DNA nudge team who have adapted their lab-on-a-chip nutritional cartridges to test for Covid-19. The medical version has already been rolled out across the UK’s National Health Service but they’re now launching a cheaper, group version which can test up to 10 asymptomatic people at a time, allowing bubbles of families and colleagues to meet safely with the knowledge that they’re not unknowingly spreading the virus.
Meanwhile, Emma Keeling travels to Lisbon to meet Professor Rita Fior and her team at the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown, who are working on more personalised treatments for cancer using animal avatars; in this case zebrafish larvae which share 70 per cent of our genetic code. Early studies are proving promising begging the question: are animal avatars a secret weapon in the battle against cancer?
