Working 500 meters below the earth’s surface can be a risky endeavor, and being able to communicate at all times with the people at the surface has proven to be advantageous.

A beekeeping coop is changing the paradigm for a community in Colombia. Artisanal, small-scale mining still accounts for 80% of the country's gold exports. But the residents of the Bajo Cauca region have found an alternative way to generate income while gaining an appreciation of the advantages of protecting their surrounding ecosystem.
